First and foremost, I am a person on a journey through life facing the inevitable challenges that occur on the way. I understand how hard it can be to reach out for help and take those initial steps towards change.

I trained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute achieving a First-Class BSc (Hons) Degree accredited with BACP. I work to BACP’s Ethical Framework which you can read more about by accessing www.bacp.co.uk. In accordance with this I attend regular supervision and personal therapy to ensure I maintain a high standard of practice tailored to my clients’ needs. My ongoing professional development also ensures I keep my theoretical knowledge up to date so that my practice continues to be effective and evidence based.

Having brought up a family, I have an understanding of the stresses and strains on parents, children and adolescents. I have previously counselled young adults in college and university settings and am familiar with many of the mental health issues associated with this age group. I have also worked in the NHS as an Occupational Health Psychotherapist. At present I work privately, benefitting from the wide scope of my previous experience.

During my previous nursing career, I was lucky enough to work with a wide range of people. This experience confirmed the importance of respecting each person’s uniqueness and never making assumptions about how they live their life. These values are paramount in the counselling and psychotherapy process and, if we are to work together successfully, I want you to know that we will work in a safe, confidential space where you are not judged. From my experience these foundations will enable us to build trust in our relationship which I hope will encourage you to explore your thoughts and feelings freely at your own pace.
